As Cyclops heads to Chicago, he and Marvel Girl converse telepathically. She has pulled up his strongest memory of Lorna Dane, and wants to know why he hasn’t mentioned his previous girlfriend before. Scott reveals that he and his brother had both been interested in her, but she had chosen Alex. Jean wonders if the Professor is sending Scott to Chicago to keep him from going into the city to break Lorna out of the Triskelion. Scott tells her she would know better than he, since she seems to spend a lot of time in Xavier’s mind. The disagreement quickly ends, however, and the two move on with their assignments.

In the Triskelion, Longshot is being taken to a holding cell with a number of other criminals, including Deathstrike and Nathaniel Essex. General Fury comments that Longshot is being placed there because he’s relatively harmless, and adds that the really dangerous prisoners are being kept downstairs. Meanwhile, Lorna and Magneto talk about killing humans. Magneto explains that he does it out of love, and draws a parallel to the American bombing of Japan during World War II; the reasoning was that the bombing would quickly end the war and save millions of lives in the long run. Lorna begins to cry and states she hadn’t meant to hurt anyone, and Magneto comforts her with a hug.

Alex Summers, Jean-Paul Baubier, Roberto DaCosta, and Sam Guthrie are driving to New York City when Nightcrawler materializes on the hood of the car, causing Alex to crash. The Academy students face off against the X-Men. Guthrie, as Cannonball, takes on Wolverine, Roberto as Sunspot fights Storm, and Jean-Paul knocks out Shadowcat. Alex and Scott go head to head; their powers cancel each other’s, but Alex finally hits Scott with a tire iron. He and Jean-Paul continue on on foot.

Elsewhere, Angel and Ali are flying over New York City. Ali’s plan is to stop Alex, in the hopes that Xavier will then let them rejoin the X-Men. If that doesn’t work, she promises Warren that she’ll restart her band and they can all go on the road.

Along the road, Mystique and her companion Forge are sitting in a police car as Northstar runs past, carrying Alex. Forge wants to stop them, but Mystique tells him that the other two are part of Magneto’s plan. On the waterfront across from the Triskelion, Jean tells her companions that Jean-Paul and Alex are on the way. Colossus seems pleased to hear Jean-Paul is in the rescue party, but Jean reminds him this isn’t the prom. They still have the job of keeping the rescue party out of “the clubhouse”, as she calls the Triskelion. From behind her, a voice tells them not to bother, and Captain America adds that “the club” will take care of the problem themselves.
