The issue picks up where the last one left off. Charles Xavier and Wolverine talk about Deathstrike; Xavier reveals that she’s in SHIELD custody, and that Logan showed restraint in not killing her. Logan apparently called in a favor from General Fury to wrap up the last adventure; he tells Xavier not to ask questions about it. Meanwhile, Kitty is looking for Bobby, interrupting a cuddle session between Warren and Ali.

In the Danger Room, Storm is leading an X-team against a computer-generated Magneto. Nightcrawler and Colossus both complain that since Magneto is in SHIELD custody, fighting him in simulation is a waste of time. Iceman wants to fight someone who’s still a threat. At that moment, Kitty phases through the wall and demands to know why he didn’t tell her that he’s been e-mailing Rogue.

When Bobby accuses Kitty of hacking into his e-mail account, she tells him that he sent her a copy of the note himself. She begins reading it out loud, and he yanks the paper out of her hand. She tells him that their relationship is over. Then she punches him. In the Control Room, Cyclops tells them to stop fighting; he confides to Jean that their on-again, off-again relationship is driving him nuts. She comments that he should remember how difficult relationships were at that age, then, seeing his expression, asks him if he dated other girls before her. He replies that there was only one.

In Chicago, Lorna Dane is greeting Roberto DaCosta, a perspective student at Emma Frost’s school. She introduces him to her boyfriend, Alex Summers. Roberto is sure they’ve made a mistake in inviting him to attend the Academy; his grades don’t warrant placement in a private school. Emma Frost appears and assures him that grades and genetic qualifiers aren’t what determines who becomes a student at her school. Her students are diplomats, she tells him, using education to build bridges between different people.

Northstar runs up and reports that he’s spotted a five-alarm fire. He charges off, with Lorna and Alex following. Roberto offers to help, but Emma tells him he’s not quite ready for that yet.

The three Academy students get mixed responses from the firefighters on the scene, but are told that someone pulled the alarm in plenty of time for everyone to leave the building. Alex suspects arson; he sends Northstar to scout the crowd to see if anyone suspicious is watching, and tells Lorna to magnetically reinforce the burning building’s structure. However, Lorna loses control of her powers, accidentally dropping a car on the Fire Chief and damaging vehicles around her. She begs Alex to stop her, and finally he delivers an energy blast that knocks her out. When Northstar reappears, Alex tells him to get Miss Frost.

General Fury’s latest flight is interrupted by a call from Commander Dugan, who informs him that Lorna has killed several people in Chicago. Although she’s unconscious, it’s possible she might kill others when she wakes up. The Triskelion has the only cell that could safely hold her, but unfortunately, it’s already occupied – by Magneto.
