Scott and Bobby face their six-armed attacker. She tells them she followed them from the airport, and that they are actually celebrities in the mutant community. She had been ready to leave the country to go to the United States, but followed them to keep them from destroying what little she’s been able to accomplish for Genosha’s mutants. She’s holding a sword to Jean’s throat, until Kitty phases up and rescues Jean.

Elsewhere, Mojo Adams insists that the television feed be restored. His assistant tells him that the workers won’t enter the jungle without a security escort. Mojo responds by threatening to broadcast his assistant’s family’s address; if Centino escapes, he might just pay them a visit.

Centino thanks the X-Men for coming to rescue him, and insists that they call him Longshot. Ali, underwhelmed by the need for nicknames and the fact that Colossus is admiring Longshot’s boots, suggests they get started back to the X-jet. It will be a long walk, since Nightcrawler is too hurt to teleport. Back at the plane, Warren is mentally kicking himself for agreeing to this mission. He hears something moving in the jungle, and is attacked by an unknown group.

Scott and Bobby attack the six-armed woman, who breaks Iceman’s ice slide and knocks off Cyclops’ glasses. Iceman finally captures her with an ice fist, which she smashes with a sword. As Iceman prepares for another attack, Kitty suddenly phases up out of the ground; she’s run out of air. The attacker knocks her out and takes her hostage, until Jean reappears, manifesting the Phoenix flames behind her.

The second X-team move through the jungle. Longshot doesn’t want to leave Genosha, but his conversation is interrupted by a flying explosive. He throws himself on top of Ali as the device goes off, leaving him miraculously unharmed. Piotr decides to take point for the rest of the trip.

Jean/Phoenix is mentally making the six-armed woman feel as though she’s burning alive. Scott, who is forced to keep his eyes closed, is convinced that Jean is someone else, although Bobby assures him she’s not. Jean finally throws her prisoner against a tree, and the Phoenix flames disappear. She offers to lend Scott her sight telepathically, but he refuses. Kitty wakes up, and Jean picks up a dropped sword, preparing to “interrogate” their prisoner.

The other team has arrived back at the X-jet to find Warren is missing. Longshot sees a hand-held video screen on the beach; it shows Mojo asking for them to return Longshot to him in exchange for Warren, who is revealed pinned to a wall with a series of knives through his wings.
