At the X-mansion, Professor X puts the younger class of X-men (Iceman, Rogue, Warren, Kitty, and a newly returned Dazzler) through a training session in the Danger Room.

In the city, the mutant killer Sinister promises his Lord Apocalypse, who still remains unseen, that he has already delivered four souls to his master; he will have the rest by that night.

The older class of X-men arrive in the city, and split into groups of two to find Sinister. Kurt and Jean are attacked by the mutant Roberto DaCosta; he is quickly subdued. He is part of a neighborhood watch on the lookout for the mutant killer. He realizes that Kurt and Jean are X-men, not the killers, but is still unfriendly towards them. Apparently, the X-men aren’t as popular with other mutants as they thought. Cyclops and Colossus visit a group of Russian arms dealers Peter used to know; it is their hope Sinister is using one of their guns. A fight ensues, with the two X-men coming out on top but with no leads towards finding Sinister. Storm and Logan have a heartfelt discussion about her pain over Hank’s death on their way to a tattoo parlor. Using some threats on the tattoo artist, they find Sinister’s address. They bust into Sinister’s apartment; it is empty save for a dressed up mannequin, apparently Sinister’s Lord Apocalypse. Wolverine notices pictures of the X-men on the wall and realizes Sinister is going after the students at the X-mansion.

At that moment, Sinister appears in front of Xavier’s school…
