A bullet moves in slow motion, heading for Jean Paul Beaubier. It stops just before hitting him, much to his surprise. Jean Grey steps into the light; she explains that they are in Jean Paul’s mind and that this is all a memory of when he was shot the night before. Thanks to his mutant reflexes, he managed to survive but is in a coma. Jean explains that four other mutants were shot and killed that same night, and she wants Jean Paul to try to remember who shot him; with Jean’s help, the image of the tattooed Mister Sinister appears. This jerks Jean Paul out of his coma; Jean and Colossus are in the hospital room with him. As the two X-men leave, Jean Paul flirts with Peter.

Later that day, Wolverine stakes out one of the previous day’s shooting scenes. At the X-mansion, Scott runs the younger X-men through field exercises; he is not happy with the small team’s less than stellar results. Inside the mansion, the Professor asks Nick Fury for helping in tracking down the mutant killer. Fury regretfully informs Xavier that due to the touchy nature of mutant politics right now, he cannot publicly help.

Above the X-mansion, Storm floats inside a thunderstorm of her own creation. Nightcrawler appears to tell her an assembly has been called. When Storm informs him that she would prefer to be alone, Nightcrawler gives her some advice, bringing up their time at Weapon X together and what happened to Beast.

In the mansion, Professor X explains that the X-men will leave the Sinister matter to the police; however, information from Wolverine changes his mind, and he assigns the mission of finding Sinister to the senior class, consisting of Colossus, Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Logan, and Kurt. Iceman is clearly upset.

Sinister talks to his hidden master, whom he addresses as Lord Apocalypse. Apocalypse is not pleased that Sinister has only gotten him four innocent souls, instead of the ten he needs. A stuttering Sinister promises to finish the job very soon.
