At the X-Mansion, the weather outside is filled with thunder and lightening. Storm’s anger over the disappearance of Beast hasn’t subsided. The Professor agrees to look for Beast using Cerebro.

Emma Frost has just entered a meeting between the President and the members of the Intelligence department. She introduces herself as a school teacher and a mutant; this earns her quite the rough reception from the security in the room. They are quickly called off. Emma explains that her mutant power allows her skin to turn into a crystal-like substance; before she can explain anymore, she is cut off by one of the men in the room.

In a random hotel in Washington, D.C., Beast is visited by a mental projection of Professor X. After some harsh words, the Professor accepts Beast’s decision to leave the X-Men, and the projection vanishes.

Back at the White House, Emma is going over possible mutant candidates for the President’s new team of mutants. Beast is among the choices, as is the punk rocker Dazzler, Cyclops’ brother Alex, and his girlfriend Lorna. The President hand picks his team, and leaves with Emma, quite pleased. Left in the room are some of the President’s top department heads, and they are not please with the direction the White House and the President are going in with mutants. They decide to take a stand.

Meanwhile, Nick Fury arrives at the X-Mansion for a talk with Xavier.
