Wolverine jumps out of a water-filled tank, with multiple tubes hanging from him. Professor X appears and explains to Logan not to fear; they are merely inside his mind, more specifically, at his first memory of Weapon X. With the Professor’s help, Wolverine recognizes the woman who has been hunting him all week, Tara. Apparently, she and her group are decommissioned Weapon X soldiers out to take down the now famous Wolverine, someone they’ve always hated.

The Professor tells Wolverine he still has a place with the X-men, but its his decision whether to leave them or come back. Afterwards, Professor X has a conversation with Nick Fury; according to Fury, he and his men will be taking care of Tara’s group. The X-men are to back off.

Wolverine arrives back to the X-mansion, where he is met with glares from the younger students. Outside, Jean informs Logan that she’ll never forget that he tried to kill Cyclops; she is, however, willing to give him a second chance as an X-man, since the Professor is as well.

Suddenly, Jean senses something and rises in the air. Tara has sent another helicopter after Wolverine. From her base, Tara warns the helicopter to turn back, but its too late. With her Phoenix powers out of control, Jean destroys the helicopter and the two men inside it…
