In St. Petersburg, Russia, Cyclops and Marvel Girl plead with Colossus, who has abandoned the X-Men, to at least rescue the 70 Russian sailors who are trapped in a wrecked submarine underwater. Adamantly against helping, Peter claims that it is a situation that The Ultimates were created to handle. Following him home, they learn that Peter is deeply uncomfortable with Xavier's actions, including blocking Magneto's memory and placing him among civillians. In addition, he felt ostracized from the X-Men, claiming the team barely spoke to him outside of missions. Later that night, while watching the latest news report of the sunken submarine, Peter finds he is no longer able to sit by and watch them die. He travels to the Barents Sea and dives straight to the bottom. Using all his strength, he launches the sub onto dry land, saving the crew. After being celebrated as a hero, her decides to return to the team.

In Berlin, the X-Men continue their search for David Xavier. Over dinner, Xavier and Colonel Braddock discuss the day Charles Xavier left his family to begin his quest of mutant-human peace with Erik Lenshrr. While the X-Men travel to greet Colossus at the airport, Xavier confronts David, who has been hiding in plain sight - right in the consciousness of Colonel Betsy Braddock.
