Arriving on Muir Island, the X-Men are met by Moira MacTaggert, world reknown genetic researcher and ex-wife of Charles Xavier. While Xavier is lost in a psychic trance to locate David, Moira explains the purpose of her mutant research center, as well as how her son came to escape the island. When Charles Xavier abandoned his family to persue his dream of human/mutant peace his son developed mutant abilities. While he was able to manipulate any matter near his person the strain on his body was immense. David would have been dead in a week had they not sedated him permanently. The night of his escape, David went into powerful seizures, and Moira was certain that he would die. But instead, he thrust his consciousness into the body of one of Moira's aides.

Joining in the X-Men's search are Colonel Betsy Braddock and Agent Dai Thomas of the S.T.R.I.K.E. Psi-Division. Waking from his trance, Xavier declares that David is in Aberdeen, and the X-Men head out to cut him off. Arriving at the local Burger King, Wolverine tries to subdue David, only to have him take control of Logan's body, whose regenerative abilities allow David better use of his power. Cornered by Colonel Braddock, David evacuates Wolverine's body just before he is hit by a truck.

Meanwhile, in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Scott and Jean find Colossus, only to learn he has decided to leave the X-Men and return home to support his family.
