Flashback: Kuwait, Operation: Desert Storm. A group of Iraqi snipers take out a small American caravan as it makes its way through the Kuwaiti desert. As one soldier radios for ground and air cover he reports that the Iraqis have bombed the adamantium cage that was carrying Weapon X.

As the Iraqis move in from the hills Wolverine makes quick work of them. He turns towards the bodies of one of the American soldiers, who’s not dead, but badly hurt. The soldier, Nick Fury, asks Wolverine to make it quick and aim below the neck for the sake of mother, who would have to identify the body. Surprisingly, though, Wolverine picks up Fury and carried him back to base. Once there, Wolverine is shot and thrown back in an adamantium cage.

The Present: Nick Fury – having been rescued recently by the Weapon X program – tries to get his life back in order. As he checks his answering machine for messages he finds one from Wolverine.

In Finland, the current base of operations for Weapon X, Marvel Girl tries to make amends with Wolverine. She apologizes for ever doubting his sincerity, but Wolverine tells her not to bother. Everything is going according to plan.

At that moment Colonel Wraith contacts General Ross, who’s in the middle of a “Strategy Session.” General Ross reveals that Weapon X will be phased out of existence over the next few years. Colonel Wraith believes that, while the people involved with Weapon X will be compensated, that the public is being jeopardized. Wraith uses Professor Xavier – who, thanks to Dr. Cornelius, has been hot-wired to Cerebo to answer Wraith’s every beck and call – to assassinated Ross and his colleagues.

Shortly afterwards, Sabretooth drags Wolverine and a group of Weapon X soldiers to the Netherlands for a “barbecue.” Sabretooth shows Wolverine his Weapon X file, which holds the answers to all of the questions plaguing Wolverine, before lighting it on fire. Wolverine breaks away from the guards in an attempt to attack Sabretooth, but he’s quickly shot down. He falls to the ground with a smile on his face. Sabretooth asks him what is so funny.

Meanwhile, Dr. Cornelius goes over Wolverine’s medical evaluation with Wraith, revealing a large abnormality in Wolverine’s large intestine. Wraith quickly realizes that it’s a tracking device.

Sabretooth again asks Wolverine what’s so funny. He answers, still smiling, “I’m just thinking about what my old cronies in te Brotherhood of Mutants are gonna do to you, Sabretooth.”

At that moment, the Brotherhood of Mutants attacks Weapon X. They cut the power and the Scarlet Witch removes the neural implants from the prisoners. “Abracadabra.”
