Reed runs down a hallway, with Sue in hot pursuit. She finally uses a force field to stop him. She accuses Reed of being crazy -- he wants to fly a shuttle into the N-Zone, and has hinted to General Ross that the trip could yield discoveries that would give the military an advantage. After discussing Ross' mental state, and being joined by Johnny and Ben, the four agree that the trip would be worthwhile. Reed is then verbally assaulted by Professor Storm for wanting to take his children into danger.

After the personal issues are resolved, the science issues are addressed. Reed wants to have one of the US space shuttles decommissioned, fitted with Stark engines and fuel, and fitted with the protective tile he has developed. Professor Storm insists that Johnny be allowed to name the new shuttle (everyone agrees Reed's names for vehicles are somewhat lacking); Johnny dubs the ship "Awesome", much to Reed and Sue's dismay.

Both Awesome and the N-Zone portal are prepared. The shuttle is launched into the gateway to the N-Zone, passing through with no difficulty. In the red space of the N-Zone, Reed drops his floating space buoy to mark the gateway's location, and the Awesome zooms off to explore.
