As Thor and Iron Man battle the alien fleet in the air, Captain America commandeers a plane and takes on Kleiser, whom he defeated back in World War II. The two engage in no-holds-barred, hand-to-hand combat.

In the meantime, there is still no help from the US Armed Forces; pieces of alien spacecraft crash to Earth from the air battle as Thor calls lightning to destroy the ships. One huge piece threatens an inhabited part of Phoenix, Arizona, and Iron Man dives in to shift its fall so that it lands outside the city. In doing so, he completely drains the power in his suit and has to recharge.

The best efforts of the Ultimates still haven’t turned the tide, so Nicholas Fury gives the order to a team of soldiers who are bringing Bruce Banner to the battlefield. The soldiers beat Banner in an effort to trigger his transformation to the Hulk, and then, when that fails, throw him out of the helicopter.
