From the wreckage of the SHIELD airfleet we go to the Triskelion, where the Chitauri leader, Kleiser, has taken control of key SHIELD personnel. He also captures Janet Pym in her Wasp form and imprisons her in a test tube.

As he leaves the Triskelion for a trip to Arizona, he explains the Chitauri mind-set to Jan, along with the plans his race has for removing the annoying human trait of free will. He assures her the rest of the Ultimates are dead. Several hours later Kleiser’s party arrives at a base outside Phoenix, where he tells Jan that the Chitauri plans are moving ahead. We also discover just how the aliens take the form of humans and why they use human names.

In the middle of the conversation, an alien fleet of spaceships appears in the sky. The Chitauri Empire is disintegrating as their slave races rise up in revolt, and the fleet has come to the “backwater” of Earth to rebuild. The planet needs to be cleansed of human life immediately. Kleiser orders that a bomb, capable of destroying all life in the solar system, be readied for detonation.

A message comes in from an alien agent at the Triskelion. Satellite pictures have revealed an anomaly in the midst of the Micronesia explosion. On the Arizona base, a small army materializes amid lightning. The Ultimates are back in the picture.
