Spider-Man pursues the Vulture across the New York City rooftops. Across the street from the Roxxon corporation, SHIELD agent Sharon Carter is setting up recording equipment and engaging her personal cloaking device. In the Triskelion, Nicholas Fury and Tony Stark have a front row seat for the Spider-Man/Vulture battle.
The Vulture wheels around and throws two more grenades, which Spider-Man catches with webbing, cause them to explode harmlessly. Carter gets a clear picture of the Vulture's face, and the SHIELD computer matches his image to the file of Blackie Drago, a decommissioned SHIELD agent.
As Spider-man plunges toward the street, the Vulture follows and Silver Sable watches, gun in hand. The Vulture notices the helpless Donald Roxxon and attacks. Silver shoots at Drago, who is dragged out of the way by Spider-Man. At the Triskelion, Fury orders everyone to wait, including Stark, who is ready to suit up as Iron Man. Spider-Man and the Vulture battle it out. The Vulture's suit contains knife-like projectiles, which he shoots at Spider-Man.
In the meantime, Roxxon's cell phone rings and he manages to answer it. A gloating voice mocks him. Carter reports that she's picking up the cell phone's call. Silver Sable is still waiting and watching the fight. SHIELD traces the call, and Fury tells Stark to suit up. Drago finally grabs Spider-Man, and Silver shoots Drago's costume, causing the wings to malfunction. As Roxxon continues his phone call with the voice that's threatening to ruin him, Spider-Man tackles the Vulture and slams him into a statue, ending the fight. Realizing that he's left Roxxon webbed to a wall, Spider-Man swings back to the rescue, only to find that Roxxon is gone, and so is everyone else. Grumbling about never knowing what was really going on, Spider-Man heads home.
In an undisclosed location in New Jersey, Fury, Iron Man and several SHIELD agents break into the lab of Elijah Stern, a former Roxxon company employee. Stern had figured out a way to use vibranium as an unlimited power source, but was fired from his job. He hacked into Roxxon accounts to fund the Vulture suit and other equipment in order to pay Roxxon back. Fury offers Stern a deal: work for SHIELD, or be shot trying to escape. Stern chooses option one.
The next morning, Donald Roxxon gets into his limousine after avoiding the press and finds Silver Sable waiting for him. She demands her money and warns him not to talk about the job to anyone.
Flash Thompson once again finds Spider-Man in his room, this time to apologize. Flash threatens him with a baseball bat. Some time later, the television show based on Flash's kidnapping airs; Peter is on the phone with Kitty and hears the X-Men laughing in the background. Kitty assures him the worst is over, and he tells her it's not. In the final panel, Flash is in school and taking full advantage of the publicity, while Peter seethes in embarrassed silence.
