Peter Parker is sitting in the school library, happily staring into space and thinking about Kitty Pryde. He's trying to decide whether or not he can tell his aunt about his new girlfriend, and is oblivious to Mary Jane Watson's angry stare from across the room. Behind him, Kong is trying to contact Flash Thompson, who hasn't answered his phone all day.
In the meantime, Flash is actually out cold on a warehouse floor, as Silver Sable and her Wild Pack try to figure out how they got the wrong "Spider-Man" and debate what to do with Flash now. Someone suggests killing him, but most of the group vetoes that idea. Flash takes advantage of their discussion to knock everyone over and flee.
Peter walks out of Midtown High School to find Kitty waiting for him. As the two stroll off to spend the afternoon together, MJ catches sight of them. Elsewhere, the Wild Pack watches a news report of Flash Thompson's kidnapping. They learn that he's provided the police with descriptions of their faces. As the report continues, the Wild Pack discusses their next move. Since Roxxon hasn't called back, Silver Sable decides to contact him in person. She lets herself into his limousine to tell him that they don't have Spider-Man yet, but that they'll finish the job at no extra charge.
Peter and Kitty are looking through a scrapbook in Peter's attic and talking about one of Spider-Man's recent heroic deeds when MJ calls to ask if he's watching TV. A newswoman is interviewing Flash about his recent kidnapping; Flash tells her that the kidnappers thought Spider-Man attended Midtown High.
The next morning, we see a succession of other images from the school: Liz Allen, Principal Ross Andru, and Kong each make a statement for the report. Peter and MJ walk into the media circus together. Peter promises to leave the Spider-Man costume in his backpack, and they joke about the idea of Flash being Spider-Man. Peter asks MJ why she hung up after telling him about the TV report, and she replies it was because he had company. At that moment a school official tells the kids to get inside and go to class. In the hall, police officers are doing random searches of students' backpacks. Naturally, they choose Peter's.
