As Hobgoblin lies on a New York City street asking Spider-Man to kill him, Peter hesitates. Harry Osborn is still his friend. He asks Harry to let him help. Behind Hobgoblin, we see Shaw tell him that Spider-Man is lying, that only Norman Osborn can help Harry, and that Harry must find him. Spider-Man offers Hobgoblin his hand. The monster takes it -- and throws Spider-Man into a building.

The police arrive and begin shooting, but the bullets have little effect. Hobgoblin uses his fire to blow up the street and a couple of cars.

Nearby, Nick Fury is being interviewed at the Triskelion. Suddenly the interviewer stops and switches the news feed to back to her station for a breaking story. Fury looks up at a picture SHIELD is receiving and sees Hobgoblin tearing through the city. Fury calls in the Hulkbuster unit, donning one of the outfits himself.

Hobgoblin is told to surrender. He actually seems happy to see the SHIELD forces arrive. Shaw is smiling. Spider-Man intervenes, asking that Harry be spared; he's told to web Hobgoblin down or get out of the way. Spider-Man chooses the former and jumps Hobgoblin, but is thrown out of the fight. The Hulkbusters open fire on Hobgoblin. The beams cause him to turn back into Harry Osborn.

SHIELD clean-up units are sent to the Osborn home and the streets where the fighting took place. Spider-Man confronts Nick Fury about why Harry was begging to be killed. Fury ignores him and continues to issue orders. Finally, Spider-Man punches Fury in the face. SHIELD operatives shoot Peter with a pair of laser darts, but Fury orders them to stop and tells Peter to go home. As Peter leaves, Fury orders all available personnel to concentrate on cracking the Oz formula. He adds that it's time Peter Parker lost his spider powers.

MJ is sitting on the front step when Peter comes home. He demands to know why MJ didn't stay away from Harry. She replies that she didn't know what condition Harry was really in. Peter tells her that since she doesn't listen when he tells her not to get involved, he can't have her in his life any more. He turns away. MJ hugs him, and for a moment he hugs her back. Then he pulls free and runs off.
