Spider-Man finds himself facing a large, gargoyle-like monster where Harry Osborn had been standing moments before. After freezing from surprise, he begins webbing the monster up, mentally cursing Norman Osborn for ruining so many lives with a single experiment. Spider-Man and Hobgoblin battle in the Osborn apartment. Finally, Hobgoblin grabs Spider-Man by the arm and throws him out a window. Leaping into the street after him, Hobgoblin continues the fight.

At Midtown High School, Peter's biology teacher notices that both Peter and Mary Jane Watson are missing from class. He comments that whatever they're doing, he hopes it's worth the detention he's going to assign them for skipping.

Elsewhere, Spider-Man is making his customary during-battle quips. Not only is Hobgoblin immensely strong, he's also able to throw fire. Now Spider-Man is worried that if he doesn't subdue Harry soon, the police or the Ultimates will show up and things will really get bad. In the meantime, Harry is still hearing directions from Shaw. As Spider-Man wonders aloud how Nick Fury could have let Harry out in his condition, MJ arrives on the scene. Shaw points Hobgoblin in her direction and he leaps at her.

Spider-Man manages to web-lasso Hobgoblin and slow him down before carrying MJ to safety. They pause for a moment on a rooftop; MJ was coming to confront Harry about his claim that his father is dead. She just wants to know who is lying to her and why. Hobgoblin climbs onto the roof, and Spider-Man attacks him, throwing him off the building. On the street below, he begins pounding on Hobgoblin.

On the final page, Hobgoblin begs Spider-Man to kill him.
