Peter Parker is asleep on a Friday morning. His aunt May is shouting at him to wake him up, and he stumbles downstairs to breakfast. Aunt May tells Peter that she's already started packing for the move to their new house, she's happy about the talk they had last night, and that his books are on the stairs. Peter needs to get going before he's late to school. When he doesn't respond to any of her comments, she comments that he's grumpy in the morning. Peter goes downstairs and looks at the equipment in his basement lab, and actually sniffs at a couple of items. He glances through one of his books, and is interrupted by Mary Jane Watson, who has come over so he can walk her to school. She kisses him and hugs him; over her shoulder, we see a sly look cross Peter's face.
Elsewhere, Wolverine wakes up in an undisclosed location. He complains about the smell, then notices he's not wearing anything. Running into the bathroom, he stares at himself in the mirror. He pops the claws on one hand, and promptly stabs himself through the arm.
Peter and MJ start on their way to school, but Peter says he's not going. MJ asks if he needs to go do something as Spider-Man, and he says yes. She tells him she needs to get his costume, which is at her house. Aunt May calls out to Peter and tells him that someone from the Daily Bugle is on the phone. Peter grumpily insists that she hand him the phone. Wolverine is on the other end of the line. He begins asking if Peter has done something and that's why he's looking at Wolverine's face in the mirror and has woken up in some strange place. Peter begins to talk, but Wolverine tells him to stop and just go to school. He can't be late again, since he's already cut ten days and that's his limit. Wolverine will meet Peter at school. In the course of the conversation, Wolverine gets so agitated that he slices both his hand and the phone with his claws. After yelling for help, he discovers that his finger has already healed. In the meantime, Peter tries to put the phone down and finds that it's stuck to his hand.
At school, Peter stands watching the cheerleaders. MJ appears, and she has an extra bag with her. She asks Peter if he's okay, and he replies that he's not. Talk-time is over, he tells her, and adds that she should go play with her Barbie dolls or whatever. She hands him the bag, which contains his costume, and storms away. Peter stares at the costume and comments that this isn't happening.
Peter is walking around the school building when he's spotted by a police officer. The officer rounds the corner and sees no one. Peter is clinging to the wall, but suddenly falls off and lands on the officer. He's about to punch the officer when Wolverine charges around the corner and stops him. Wolverine and Peter confront each other, and discover that the personality of each is trapped in the body of the other. Neither knows how this has happened. They compare notes: "Woverine" is having trouble controlling his claws, and "Peter" is experiencing a tingling feeling in his head (his spider-sense). "Wolverine" insists that "Peter" needs to go to class before he gets into any more trouble.
"Peter" walks into class, then asks to go to the bathroom. The teacher refuses the request. "Peter" is about to walk out again when the teacher threatens him with expulsion. Fuming, "Peter" sits down. Flash Thompson starts picking on him, but "Peter" snarls at him, and Flash backs off.
Outside, "Wolverine" sees a police car go by and runs after it to help. He leaps toward a gunman, but overshoots and bounces off the hood of an SUV. A police car slams into the SUV and sends it flying through the air -- right on top of "Wolverine". Inside the school, the students are watching the accident, except for "Peter", who is grumbling, "Idiot kid."
