Spider-Man and the Lizard are fighting. The scene abruptly changes, and the Lizard is making his way to a house. Inside is a little boy, asleep. As the Lizard leans over the bed, the boy wakes up, and we see a panel of the boy’s wide eye as a clawed hand descends.
Dr. Curt Conners wakes up from the nightmare and calls his ex-wife to check on his son. She doesn’t want to talk to him. As he hangs up, he looks at a letter from Stark Industrials telling him that his research presentation is overdue and that his grant funding will be cut off if he doesn’t make the presentation.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man is swinging through Brooklyn, following a group of police cars. As the police set up outside a museum, Spider-Man enters and finds a group of hostages being threatened by large man in strange costume armor. The man is demanding that "Nurhachi" be set free. Spider-Man dodges metal projectiles from the armor, ends up being thrown around a lot, and finally webs the man’s eyes before hitting him with part of a barrier. The police break in and hold Spider-Man at gunpoint, but the museum employees say that Spider-Man saved them. Finally the police captain, Jeanne De Wolfe, orders the officers to lower their guns. Spider-Man escapes through the roof, but is injured.
Conners is letting himself into his lab when he finds Peter already there, asking for medical attention. Conners patches him up; not only is Peter injured, he’s coming down with a cold. He and Conners talk about the experiment Conners attempted, injecting himself with a serum designed to grow back his missing left arm. The experiment backfired and caused Conners to turn into the Lizard (Ultimate Marvel Team-Up #10). The DNA strands that cause the transformation are still intact, but are dormant. Peter accepts the loan of a sweatshirt and heads home. As Conners mops up Peter’s blood, his curiosity gets the better of him and he puts a sample under a microscope for a look. Whatever he sees excites him.
