Peter’s chemistry teacher has noticed that Peter’s not in class and begins asking questions. Both Gwen and Mary Jane try to deflect the questions, until an announcement over the loudspeaker describes an incident at the high school a few blocks away, which seems to be under attack. Students at Midtown are being evacuated as a precaution. Gwen grumbles something about “mutants”, which moves the action to Peter and Geldoff, who have just met some of the X-Men.

They introduce themselves—Ororo, Marvel Girl, and Kitty Pryde — and tell Geldoff that they’re a mutant peacekeeping force. They want to ask him about his future plans as a mutant. Geldoff, who has been denying that he’s a mutant, promptly faints. As Ororo and Kitty try to revive him, Marvel Girl compliments Peter on the way he handled the situation at Geldoff’s school. Geldoff comes to, but when Marvel Girl telepathically asks him if he’s all right, he faints again.

The three women consult with Professor Xavier via telepathy. They decide to bring Geldoff back to the school for questioning, and Kitty invites Peter along. He finally accepts.

At Midtown High School, students are meeting family and friends in the parking lot to get rides home. One of the students is on her cell phone to someone at the other high school, and reports that Spider-Man showed up. MJ is listening in on the conversation until her mother greets her. Close behind her is Aunt May, who has found Gwen but is still looking for Peter. No one knows where he is.

On the X-jet, Kitty is asking how Peter lost his costume, which leads to a discussion of costumes in general. Geldoff wakes up aboard the jet and panics, causing part of the plane to explode.

Aunt May calls the Daily Bugle to see if Peter is there, but after being transferred a couple of times, she’s cut off. Aboard the X-jet, Peter and the three women are trying to get both Geldoff and the plane under control. Ororo has the winds catching the plane and bringing it safely to the ground, Peter clings to the side of the plane and hold Kitty in place while Marvel Girl steers. Geldoff, Peter and Kitty are suddenly sucked out of the hole in the jet’s wall and plunge Earth-wards.
