Outside the location of a high school party, a group of teens watches two exploded cars burn. Geldoff, the young man who caused the explosions, stands in front of the crowd. As Peter pushes his way forward to do something, police sirens sound in the distance. Suddenly there’s a mad dash as everyone scrambles to escape. Geldoff’s hand begins to glow and he seems ready to blow up the police cars, but another teen grabs him and hauls him away. Teenagers flee in all directions, including Peter and Gwen Stacy.
Peter sees that Mary Jane has fallen and helps her up. All of them climb over a fence and run to a nearby bus stop. There they meet two more refugees from the party, who tell them that Geldoff is an exchange student at their school. He’s apparently a mutant. The teens commiserate about how much trouble they’ll be in if their respective guardians find out what they’ve been doing.
When the bus arrives, Peter and MJ end up sitting together and talking about the outfit she’s wearing. Finally MJ takes a note out of her purse and sits holding it. Once they get off the bus, she gives Peter the note, after making him promise not to read it until he gets home. Peter follows instructions. The note is from MJ, and in it she confesses that she loves Peter and has for a long time. She also apologizes for what she said on the bleachers and that she has been miserable since they broke up. Peter runs out of the basement and dashes to MJ’s house where they finally kiss and make up.
The next day, someone has spray-painted the words “Geldoff Rules!!” on a set of lockers at Peter’s school. Peter is torn between wanting to go to Geldoff’s school to find him, or spending time with MJ. Either way, he’s ecstatic that he and MJ are together again. As MJ walks up to him in the hall and begins talking, so does Flash Thompson. Peter still doesn’t trust him, but the conversations are both interrupted by Liz Allen, who’s on the phone with her cousin. The cousin goes to Geldoff’s school; over the phone, Peter can hear explosions. MJ tells him to go investigate, but Peter points out that he still doesn’t have a costume. MJ hands him half a costume — she had been working on it when they broke up, and she only has the top half done. Peter, somewhat reluctantly, puts it on and goes to find Geldoff.
