Peter is having a nightmare – he is once again threatening the gunman he caught in the last issue. This time Peter is dressed as Spider-Man in his usual red and blue outfit. As he shouts at the gunman, the purple Venom costume engulfs him and begins to wrap itself around the gunman. A series of panels shows the gunman changing into Eddie Brock, until Peter’s face reappears out of the Venom suit.

Peter wakes up to find it raining. He goes next door and taps on Mary Jane Watson’s window, asking her to meet him in her garage. The conversation starts awkwardly – Peter and MJ had broken up in a previous issue -- but she finally asks if he’s all right and whether or not he’s made a new costume. She’s seen Spider-Man in the dark suit. He tells her it was a one-time thing. After each finds out that the other isn’t seeing anyone else, Peter confesses that he almost lost control and killed someone. He tells MJ that he misses her and wants to be there for her. MJ admits that she’s scared – Peter’s life as Spider-Man is hard to take. Finally the two walk away from each other.

At Empire State University, a custodian is wheeling her cart down the hall and into a lab. She finds a strange pile of dark goo on the floor, and hears a voice coming from it. When she reaches down to help whoever it is, the dark liquid engulfs and consumes her. Eddie Brock crawls out of the liquid, but the tendrils keep winding around him and pulling him back. He struggles to control what’s happening. A pair of security guards walks in, and the Venom suit takes over, attacking and killing both of them.

At Midtown High School, Peter is sitting in math class when his spider-sense goes off. He looks out into the rain to see a black shape with huge teeth and a long tongue – Venom. When his teacher’s back is turned, Peter walks out of the classroom and goes to confront Venom. To his horror, the dark mass reveals Eddie’s face inside it.
