As Daily Bugle reporter Ben Urich talks to a bank teller, Spider-Man suddenly forces his way into the bank; beating up the bank manager, and ordering the bank tellers to give him the money. Urich notices something very telling about Spider-Man, he lacks the grace he displayed during his battle with Doctor Octopus. Later at the Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson couldn't be any happier upon hearing the news from Urich; ignoring Urich's suggestion that it might be an imposter and demanding he write the story. At which point Peter walks in, shocked to hear the news.
As he arrives home, he notices a police car parked infront of his house, and frantically runs in. But he discovers Captain Stacy had stopped by to ask Aunt May if Gwen Stacy could stay over for the weekend, since he had a police detectives conference in Atlantic City to attend. Moments later, Peter breaks the news of Gwen staying over to MJ, which she gets mad about because she believes Gwen is trying to take Peter away from her.
After it's reported on the news that Spider-Man has been trapped inside a jewelery store, Peter hurries to the scene to confront his imposter. But soon learns -the hard way- of the cops unwillingness to reason with him, as the issue ends with a wounded Spider-Man surrounded by armed officers.
