History: Sebastian Shaw was the head of the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club and president of Shaw Industries. The Hellfire Club were the ones that secretly funded Xavier's organization, and the group was also dedicated to bringing the Phoenix God, an ancient deity that has been trapped in a many angled prison for twenty billion years. They lured the X-Men to a gala, but it turned to be a ruse, and Jean was set up to become the host for the god, with Charles, Piotr, and Ororo as sacrifices. The others were busy with other missions.

He told Xavier about the god and he mocked Shaw, saying that the visions were nothing more than a side effect of her fragile psychosis. The Phoenix was released at dawn, the force was summoned and for the mercilessness towards innocents, killed twelve of the thirteen memebers of the Inner Circle, just leaving Shaw. The Phoenix used it's power to transfer all of Shaw's funds to Xavier, then she killed him.
