Powers: Kitty Pryde possesses the ability to be come intangible. She can pass through any solid object at will and walk on air. Her phasing ability can disrupts electrical singals, rendering any electronics she passes through inoperative.
History: Kitty Pryde is a vibrant young mutant with the ability to become intangible. Her powers began to manifest at a young age, causing her a myriad of problems. Her mother, Theresa, sought help from Professor Charles Xavier, leader of the X-Men. Xavier was eager to have the bright girl, but her mother would only allow her to attend Xavier's school under one condition: that young Katherine not take part in any X-Men missions, nor train in any "Danger Room". Xavier agreed, and Kitty was quickly enrolled in the school.
Eager seemed to be Kitty's middle name though, as she quickly decided on a codename for herself: Shadowcat! She even wanted to accompany Cyclops and Wolverine on their journey to the Savage Land, but Cyclops rebuked her. Ignoring him, Kitty stowed away on the Blackbird and showed herself when Cyclops and Wolverine landed. The pair immediately sent her back to the jet to wait, however, and continued on their mission. Once again Kitty ignored Cyclops' orders and ventured into Magneto's old base, coming across Wolverine and Cyclops just as there were going to be attacked by the manifestation of Magneto's super-computer. Kitty inadvertedly phased through the robot, destroying it instantly, and allowing the X-Men to escape.
As they ran for their lives, the ground under Cyclops collapsed, leaving him hanging over a deep pit. Wolverine instructed Kitty to find the nearest exit, leaving Cyclops and Wolverine alone. Wolverine feigned an attempt to rescue Cyclops, but let him drop into the pit, where he lay for a month. When Kitty returned to the X-Men, she could neither confirm nor deny Jean's premonitions regarding the fate of Cyclops.
Kitty is now a full fledged member of the X-Men and has participated in several team missions, including subduing the mutant known as Geldorf, and helping to defeat Magneto and shut down the device he would use to reverse the Earth's magnetic poles.
